Oaxacan Walls
Bright yellow, pink, and blue create a powerful facade for Oaxacan Walls (1978). The brushstrokes are visible in rapidly-painted diagonals, the urgency of which reinstate the energetic impression created by bold colour. The title of this work refers to the region that Macaree stayed in Mexico. Rather than urban Mexico City, Macaree chose to live and work in the Oaxacan countryside to pursue her fascination with remote areas, yet this painting offers a glimpse of infrastructure.
