Angel Wings by Window
Angel Wings is a succulent with silvery-white leaves. The pink hue of the leaves likely reflect the light from elsewhere, injecting vibrant colour into a domestic scene. Secret Life of Plants (1978) is more abstract in its depiction of energetic flora in an explosion of colour and movement.
Both works were produced during the artist’s time studying at Camberwell (1975–9). 91¶¶̉ơ this period, Macaree describes a chauvinistic environment, and her desire to pursue the colours and themes that interested her in Mexico. Plants have been a constant source of fascination throughout the artist’s career. These two early works precede the flora studied by Macaree during her eleven years spent in Mexico. The later work, Secret Life of Plants (1978), was donated by artist in 1992 during the founding years of The Women’s Art Collection.
