Hostess
Lexi Strauss painted this ghostly image of a pregnant woman whilst at art college. It disgusted her tutor, who thought that the huge teats looked like hot dogs. The enlarged teats accentuate the physical strain breastfeeding can impose on mothers, whilst the title references Strauss’ experience of pregnancy, describing a time when they felt valued for what they could produce or do with their body, in serving the needs of others.
