Ice Music for John
Created exclusively for the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) in 2018, this print was produced as a gift for supporters attending the organisation's Hall of Fame Gala. It is based on a design originally created by Carolee Schneemann in 1987 for the American composer John Cage, with whom she collaborated on several occasions.
The photographic imagery, captured by Anthony McCall in London during the early 1970s, forms the foundation of the composition. Although Schneemann's 1987 design was intended to become a print, it remained uneditioned for more than three decades before being realised in this edition, bringing together photography, performance and printmaking within a work that reflects the artist's longstanding interdisciplinary practice.
