Rachel Nicholson
Rachel Nicholson, daughter of Ben Nicholson and Barbara Hepworth, was a painter of still lifes and landscapes. Frequently she painted views of Porthmeor beach from her family apartment and views of St Ives from friends’ homes and the Tate St Ives cafe. The special light and beauty of the landscape has drew her back here, where she spent much of her childhood. She regarded her still lifes as equally important, and part of the 'Nicholson tradition'. In all her work a sense of placement and relationship of objects one to another was of prime importance, as well as conveying a feeling of peace.
